A letter from our Board President

Hello Sylvan Family, I hope you are staying warm this winter.

Summer will be here soon, and we are busy planning another great season at Sylvan. With your continued support, we remain committed to keeping our park safe, welcoming, and enjoyable for everyone. This year, we have revised some of our rules, updating, removing, or adding them as necessary. Please review the updated rules, highlighted in yellow on the enclosed sheet, and return the acknowledgment form with your invoice and payment.

Last year, we celebrated Sylvan’s 60th anniversary with several upgrades, including improvements to lighting and sound systems, repairs to part of the failing landscape wall, and updates to electrical and plumbing systems. After much trial and error, we believe we’ve resolved recurring heater issues. Looking ahead to 2025, we plan to continue these improvements. Projects include further repairs to the landscape wall, new steps near the adult lanes, and a facelift for the slide steps. We also aim to address critical infrastructure updates, such as repairs to the drain and pump systems.

Additionally, you may have noticed our upcoming Casino Night fundraiser to benefit the tot pool. The tot pool gutter is showing its age and will soon need to be replaced. To maintain safety and functionality, we plan to install a stainless-steel gutter, similar to the one in the main pool. These updates are vital. First, we do not want the structural integrity of the gutter to be compromised. Also, iron oxide buildup from the current steel gutter causes discoloration, stains the pool walls and floor, and clogs filters more frequently.

Unfortunately, rising costs require an increase in membership fees this season. Family memberships will increase by $20, couples by $5, and singles by $10. Last year, we raised staff wages to keep up with national wage trends, and other expenses have risen as well. Our staff is the most vital part of our daily operations, without them, the pool cannot open. While these changes are necessary, we remain committed to maintaining activities for all ages throughout the summer. We also encourage members to participate in fundraisers and volunteer at the pool to help offset costs.

As a reminder, all members must present their physical membership cards at the gate each time they enter, even if the desk attendant “knows” you or if you visit daily. For families and couples, each individual must have their own card (e.g., two people – two cards; five people – five cards). New and for some of you, returning this year, once we receive your invoice, signed rules acknowledgment, and full payment, your membership cards will be mailed to you. Like other membership-based organizations (e.g., Sam’s Club, Costco, gyms, and social clubs), membership verification is required for entry. Please remember that our team is here to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, and all members are expected to follow staff directives at all times. Our staff is composed of 90% students aged 14 to 20. They are someone’s child, grandchild, niece, or nephew; they mentor younger children and may even be someone you know. Our staff all have challenging jobs and deserve our respect and gratitude. Thank you for your ongoing support. Your involvement helps us continue improving while creating a safe, enjoyable, and entertaining environment for all. We look forward to another successful season at Sylvan!
